Captain's XI - 190 for 7 (40 Overs) - F Sheikh 53*, A Renwick 37, N Granger 27*, JP Chetty 2-15, T Chetty 2 (for about 20 odd)
President's XI - 189 for 9 (40 overs) - N Chetty 50*, A Sardesai 50*, John 27, M Van Maurik 2-14, 5 run outs!!!
Captain's XI win by 1 run.
Man of the match - John for his demolition in the last few overs to give the President's XI a glimmer of hope!
The Captain's XI started off well with Alan and Farhan leading the charge, despite the latter one trying to give his wicket away on numerous occasions! However, after the good start, Alan was clean bowled by Mike Reed and Farhan was retired not out on 53 and wickets began to tumble, in between rain breaks. However, an unbeaten stand of 41 between the Granger brothers, including Euan's first ever 6 (over cow corner off Bashir - surely that's a sackable offence!) pushed the Captain's XI on to a formidable total. Pick of the bowlers was Jay Paul with a brilliant spell.
After the, once again, fantastic curry and sundries provided by Clans Wadee, Chetty and Sardesai and puddings provided by the rest, a slightly heavy legged Captain's XI took to the field.
Things did not start well for the President's XI and at 32-3, it looked as if the game may not spark to life - the resident Kiwi, Mike VanMaurik, accounting for Mahendra and Jay Paul in another excellent spell of bowling. However, with Navin and Aaron both hitting unbeaten half centuries and John's excellent 27, including the bludgeoning of 2 straight 6s back down the ground meant that the President's XI were back in it. 24 needed off the last 3 overs, became 9 off the last 2, became 6 off the last. With some suicidal running and 4 run outs in the last 2 and a half overs it came down to the last ball - Collier vs. Reed, 2 to win. An in-drifting yorker from Will took leg stump to ensure the trophy remained in his possession for another year.
A great game and a great tea, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Nice to see a lot of faces come up to the ground, including club members who weren't playing. Thanks to everyone who supported the day.
